If you like getting out and about and exploring the local area when you travel, you are among like minded people. We love exploring and finding beautiful places to go for a walk, such as Hells Hole.

Although it will take a while with our base being in North Wales (another beautiful place to visit) we will be making a list of walks along with other things to do whilst visiting Bonchester.

The first walk we have been on with Libby our bouncy sighthound mix is Hells Hole. Sounds scary, but don’t be put off by its name. It’s a lovely walk not far from Bonchester Bridge Camping site which is part of Wauchope Forest. From Bonchester, turn right onto the B6357 towards Newcastleton for approximately 2 miles.

Hells Hole is the first access point to Wauchope and is on the right-hand side. Hells Hole is a moderate walk in a loop with 2 available trails to follow which take around an hour.. Good for a leisurely walk on a beautiful sunny day.

As we were popping down to Bonnie Park to work, we didn’t have much time. We had heard the locals talk about Hells Hole and to be honest we were intrigued by the name! It took no time at all, 7 minutes, about 4 miles to get there. There is a small carpark and an information sign with a map. The path looked good and it was lush and green with wild strawberries, raspberries and an abundance of wild flowers and mixed trees. Look out for Red Squirrels, Buzzards and Foxes whilst you enjoy this beautiful part of the world!
